Bio
For David, music is more than just a craft – it's a passion that runs deep. A skilled guitarist and solid songsmith, David creates and performs with an intensity born of his love for music and its power to touch the soul. His singular Americana sound is a blend of folk, blues, rock, and country, with distinctively Southern roots. He draws inspiration from singer-songwriters of the 60s and 70s, but with a delivery and edge spawned from years playing in high energy alt-rock bands. His guitar work ranges from gentle acoustic picking, to up-tempo rockabilly-inspired riffs, to bluesy, surf-tinged electric leads. With his unique voice and style, David's songs explore thoughts and actions through powerful stories, self-reflection, and observations on life.
Born in Mobile AL, David grew up in the semi-rural outskirts of Atlanta where he developed a love for music in his early youth that never wavered. Nourished first by the AM radio hits of the 60s, then cemented by the blues traditions of the South, and framed by the sounds of the British invasion, he learned to play guitar and write songs on his own terms.
David played in several bands in the Atlanta area, and was part of the vibrant music scene in the early '80s that spawned such bands as REM, the Swimming Pool Q's, and the B52s. Drawing from diverse influences of blues-rock, jazz-fusion, punk, and rockabilly, he served roles as a songwriter, singer, and lead/rhythm guitarist. After moving to Olympia WA in the late '90s, David was exposed to the rich Pacific NW music scene, where he gained interest in acoustic-based music and honed skills in music recording and production.
More recently David performed regularly in Columbia SC as a solo acoustic artist before moving to Chapel Hill NC at the start of 2020 where he currently lives. He has released three singles so far in 2023: "Into the Fire", "Bad Things We Do", and "House".
